NORWOOD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — New England residents who live away from the coast are finding ways to keep cool during this week's heatwave.

Norwood residents were feeling the heat on Friday with temperatures up to 91 degrees and a UV index of 9 out of 10. Norwood was the hottest community in New England on Thursday with temperatures feeling like it was over 100 degrees.

"It's always hot here, watch the weather you look at the whole state and Norwood is always 3 to 4 degrees hotter than everywhere," a Norwood man told WBZ's Chris Fama.

People in Fitchburg and Nashua, New Hampshire, were also experiencing high temperatures and humidity with little relief.

Researchers in Maine said the heat actually broke the world record this week. The University of Maine’s Climate Reanalyzer, a tool that uses satellite data and computer simulations to measure the Earth's temperature, recorded the unofficial hottest temperature on Earth.

On July 4th, the globe's average temperature reached 62.9 degrees Fahrenheit or 17.18 degrees Celsius, setting a record that only lasted 24 hours.

Eileen, of Norwood, said her way to beat the heat is to "stay in the house or go down to the pool," while another man said getting sprayed by the hose is the way to go.
