CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A pop-up history center is coming to North Cambridge.

On Thursday, History Cambridge, formally known as the Cambridge Historical Society, is hosting a grand opening party for the pop-up that will live at 2322 Massachusetts Ave. for April and May.

Marieke Van Damme, Executive Director of History Cambridge, said the center will be a place where neighbors can come together and learn about the history of North Cambridge through their own experiences and memories in the neighborhood.

"We are excited for our pop-up, this is a new experience for us," Van Damme told WBZ NewsRadio's Emma Friedman. "We've decided to go into a different neighborhood every year, this year our neighborhood is North Cambridge."

She said the community can come in and ask questions about the city's history and share their own stories.

People are being encouraged to bring their own photos of North Cambridge over the years. If they choose, their photos can be scanned and added to a slideshow facing the window so people walking by can see them.

"When people bring in those personal photos it shows how we each hold a piece of history and how important it is for us to share those experiences to provide a richer mosaic of the city," Van Damme said.

The center will also host several events like History Cafe programs and a Community Exhibition.
