SALEM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An independent movie theater on the North Shore is rolling out a new membership program.
Cinema Salem, located in downtown Salem, is launching the "Cinema Salem Society" program that gives members special perks ranging from movie ticket discounts, free passes and popcorn, to a complimentary movie theater rental.
There are four tiers of memberships residents can choose from. Members at all tiers can get movie tickets for $8 for them and a guest and can attend members-only screenings throughout 2024. Normally tickets cost $11.
"We wanted to give people an ongoing way to connect to the cinema so we created 'Cinema Salem Society'," Owner Marshall Strauss told WBZ's Kim Tunniclifffe.
The Red Tier is $60 a year. The Blue Tier, which costs $120, also includes 12 free passes. The Green Tier, which costs $250, includes free passes in addition to free popcorn for you and a guest.
The highest tier is the Gold Tier which costs $1000. It includes all the above perks in addition to complimentary theater rentals to host your own viewing party.
"Yes it gives us a little extra money, but it makes this place even more their cinema," Strauss said. "That's what we're trying to do."
