BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A sentimental statue containing the ashes of deceased family members has made its way back home after being stolen off a South Boston lawn last week.

Jessyca Doyle was starting to lose hope that she would never see the statue containing her dad's and grandfather's ashes again when she walked outside of her home to find it just a few feet away from where it was stolen.

"I was worried the statue wouldn't be here for Father's Day," Doyle told WBZ's James Rojas while holding back tears. "I'm just so happy it got back here before then because it means a lot to my little cousins, it means a lot to me, it means a lot to my grandma, yeah I'm just so happy."

After the 3-foot-tall statue of a man who resembles Charlie Chaplin wearing a top hat was stolen, Doyle took to the Southie Community Bulletin Board Facebook group to ask for its safe return. Doyle's father passed away in 2018 and her grandfather died two years later. Both her father's and grandfather's ashes were placed inside the statue.

Doyle and her grandmother Dianne don't think the thief had any idea about its sentimental value when they took the statue.

"I'm thankful that they had kept it in one piece and they brought it back, I mean that's the biggest thing, those are the two things I'm very very happy about," Doyle said.

She said her family is just happy it's back at home and wants to thank the person for bringing it back.
