BELLINGHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Over a dozen storyboards have been installed in Bellingham to help kids get ahead on some summer reading while educating parents.

The newly installed StoryWalk in Bellingham town common has 19 different storyboards. Parents and children can walk down the circular path and read pages of children's books as they go. As you make your way down the path more and more pages are waiting.

Baby's Busy Day is the first book to be displayed on the StoryWalk.

"The main purpose is for families as a place to go out, get air, enjoy a story, work on literacy," Laura Brillant-Giangrande, youth services librarian, told WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe.

The StoryWalk will have some required summer reading books available to help ease some elementary school students' summer reading without the need to go into the library.

"Using books that were actually available free online from the CDC and it talks about milestones to be aware of so parents can walk and read with their kids but it also helps them learn about their child's growth and development."

The StoryWalk's official grand opening will be held in the spring.
