BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The historic pipe organ at one of the oldest churches in Boston got its semi-annual tune up on Tuesday.

Stefan Maier showed up to Old North Church for his 100th tuning of the iconic organ.

"You have to fast for three days to be able to get in," Maier joked from inside the back of the organ.

"Basically there are about 1,500 pipes in there, we don't tune them all but we have to find the ones that are out of tune and then adjust them," he told WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe.

Maier conducted a sound check on every key of the nearly 300-year-old wall size pipe organ. He was able to tell which keys are out of tune by playing each key on its own and listening to the tones.
