REVERE, Mass. (WBZ News Radio) — Thousands of motorcyclists rode from Revere to Malden on Sunday afternoon for the 12th and final Boston “Wounded Vet Run”.

Hundreds lined up to shake hands with five Marines who were seriously injured during an attack at Kabul Airport during the United States' withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

Tyler Vargas Andrews lost his arm and leg in the attack and says he feels honored so many people came out to support him and others who have served.

"It gives me faith in good Americans again honestly it's incredible to see the support," Andrews told WBZ's Suzanne Sausville. "I mean some of this stuff is things I never would have believed prior to getting hurt."

The motorcycle riders raised close to $200,000 for the Marines.

"It's unbelievable, I mean I'm from Massachusetts, I was an honoree for this ride back in 2015. Today's not about me these marines and their sacrifices, what they've done, what they continue to do," said Nick Lavery, a Green Beret that lost his leg in Afghanistan.

Since the "Wounded Vet Run" began it has raised more than $2 million for injured veterans. Organizers decided this would be the last run as conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan have wound down.
