PRINCETON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two young skiers were rescued on Tuesday evening with the help of dispatch technology after getting lost in a remote area on Wachusett Mountain.

Princeton Fire Department announced that two male skiers were on the back side of Wachusett Mountain in an "extremely remote area" when they decided to explore outside of the ski area boundaries and got lost.

Wachusett grooming department, ski patrol, and emergency services used dispatch technology to target their cell phone signal and locate the skiers' GPS coordinates, according to Princeton Fire Department. When the boys were found, they were about 2 miles from civilization with less than 10 percent phone battery.

"This could have ended tragically but these boys are very lucky and used their heads and shared body heat to survive," said Princeton Fire Department.

Firefighters, emergency services, ski patrol, and the Wachusett grooming department faced dangerous snow conditions and darkness while working to save the boys from the harsh conditions. Wachusett Mountain's Tuesday morning snow report stated they had already accumulated 14 inches of snow with more coming down through the day.
