BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Oyster lovers do not need to shell out the big bucks if they want to enjoy their favorite mollusks.
Dozens of restaurants in and around Boston are offering $1 oyster deals on certain days and times of the week, and the promotion is proving quite popular.

"We’re very, very busy on dollar oysters [day], especially during the summer," Gina Day told WBZ NewsRadio. Day works at Lower Mills Tavern in Dorchester, which slings oysters for a buck each and every Monday.
According to Day and other restaurants and bars that spoke with WBZ NewsRadio, the reasoning behind all these cheap oysters goes back decades.
"I think it’s just a creative way to work around the 'no happy hour' type of thing," Day said.
Massachusetts banned happy hour in 1984, and with establishments needing a way to get people through the door and stick around, the kitchens came up with this New England solution.
"I think you see it typically on Mondays and Tuesdays too because that’s typically slower days in the restaurant industry," said Day.
Despite a rise in the price of oysters in recent months, Day said the dollar oysters are not going away anytime soon.
