BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Uber driver accused of raping a passenger over the weekend appeared in court on Monday.

The prosecution maintained that driver Daudah Mayanja picked up a woman late Friday into early Saturday morning and raped her on the Esplanade in Boston.

The defense laid out a different version of events, saying the woman was drunk and that Mayanja forced her out of the car when she wanted to smoke marijuana.

As the defense attorney was being questioned by the judge, Mayanja started to sob.

There is an ICE detainer for Mayanja, who is a Ugandan citizen. He has no previous record. If Mayanja makes bail, which was set at $100,000, he may be deported.
