12-Year-Old Boy Killed In Shooting In Mattapan

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A 12-year-old boy has died after a shooting in Mattapan Thursday Afternoon.

Boston Police responded to a home on Fessenden Street near Norfolk Street at 2:05 after getting reports of a shooting. The boy was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but ultimately did not survive.

Authorities said in a press conference that the shooting did not appear to be random and there is no ongoing threat to the public. Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said the shooting likely occurred inside the home.

Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox did not specify if police were searching for any suspects at this time. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said the city will be providing support to those impacted by the incident.

"We do have trauma supports that will be available for residents here and will be available for anyone impacted," the mayor said. "I want to thank our first responders for their diligent and immediate work to try to resuscitate this young person ... a child this age being lost to gun violence is a nightmare."

The shooting remains under investigation. Boston Police urged anyone with information to reach out, adding that if anyone was in need of emotional support in the wake of this incident they should reach out to the Boston Neighborhood Trauma Team.
