16-Year-Old Bicyclist Dies After Being Struck By Truck In Ipswich

IPSWICH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A 16-year-old boy has died after being struck by a pickup truck while riding his bike in Ipswich on Friday.

According to Ipswich Police, a patrol officer witnessed the crash at around 6:09 p.m. on Route 1A across from the Southern Heights housing complex.

Investigators said that the driver of the truck, a 61-year-old Manchester-by-the-Sea man, was traveling northbound when he hit the teen, who was traveling southbound in the northbound lane.

First responders on scene found the 16-year-old Ipswich boy suffering from serious injuries and began administering first aid.

The 16-year-old was then taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with police.

The crash is currently under investigation by Ipswich and Massachusetts State Police, along with the Essex District Attorney's Office.
