SALEM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —Two Salem police officers suffered minor injuries after a man allegedly tried to run them over, leading to an officer-involved shooting.

The incident started on Congress Street around 1 a.m. Wednesday when the officers approached a man parked in a car.

One of the officers opened fire after the suspect attempted to run them over.

The suspect’s arm was grazed by the officer’s bullet before he tried to drive away.

The suspected then crashed his car on Peabody Street near a Wendy’s restaurant. The man then abandoned his car and jumped into the water off the Salem Harbor Walk.

The suspect quickly gave up the pursuit because of how cold the water was.

The man is now in police custody. There’s still no clear motive as to why the man took off.

Both the officers and the man are expected to be okay.
