Here in America, if a celebrity shows off a little skin they wind up on the cover of a magazine, but in Cambodia, if a movie star is deemed a little too sexy, then they get banned from working, and that's just what happened to Denny Kwan.
According to The Cambodia Daily, Kwan was banned from the movie industry for a year because the country's Culture and Fine Arts Ministry felt she "did not follow the code of conduct of artists." They explained that they had warned the 24-year-old about how the photos she was posting on social media went against Cambodia's code of virtue, but Kwan didn't stop.
Denny told the Phnom Penh Post, "I know it's my right to (dress how I want), but our culture, Cambodian people, cannot accept it."
Many activists are coming to her defense, pointing out how the situation is all about gender discrimination. Nonetheless, Kwan has promised to tone it down.
