BRAINTREE (WBZ-AM) -- A man was killed when a fire tore through a ranch-style home in Braintree late Sunday night.
The fire began around 11 p.m. at the home on Nicholas Road.
Deputy Fire Chief Robert Belanger told WBZ-TV that first responders were able to get two people out, but not a third.
The man killed in the fire has not yet been identified.
"Once the fire was knocked down, a subsequent search of the residence showed there was one member who did not make it out, and that proved to be fatal injuries," Deputy Chief Belanger said.
Neighbor Dan Bythrow said he saw flames coming from the right side of the house, toward the roof. He said he did not know the family well, but said they had lived there a long time.
"They were very quiet, they kept to themselves, a set of parents and a son," Bythrow said.
The body was found inside the home after the fire was extinguished.
Officials are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
