Pembroke Church Serving Thanksgiving Meal To Entire Community

PEMBROKE (WBZ-AM) -- The First Church has long been a fixture in the Pembroke community--but for the first time, that fixture will have the fixings.

The church is serving a free Thanksgiving meal for the entire town, with food provided by Firehouse Food Pantry in Bryantville and church members doing all the prep work.

"Primarily it was through a grant that someone wanted to do something to make a difference, because the church had touched him," Rev. Matthew Jackson told WBZ-TV. "We put together the idea of going beyond ourselves and really looking at what we could do in the community, and then it came up, hey, let's do a Thanksgiving meal."

Rev. Jackson said everyone is welcome.

"We really wanted to reach people who may be alone, families are not here, they're distanced or whatever," he said. "Just anyone who really wanted to come in and share a good meal and the fellowship."

The church will keep serving from noon until people stop showing up--or until the food runs out.
