PROVIDENCE, RI (WBZ-AM/24/7 News Source/AP) -- A Medway, MA woman known as “Iron Mom” for completing several triathlons is dead after being struck by an alleged drunk driver.

Andrea Bosworth's family says she passed away Thursday in the hospital. Police confirmed this Friday.

The single mother of three was outside her vehicle along I-95 in Providence on October 22, when a car slammed into her.

Relatives say Bosworth was acting as the designated driver for a friend when she pulled over in the breakdown lane about 2:20 a.m. the morning of the accident to help her passenger.

Police say Yiranis Liz, 30, was arrested on drunk driving charges, and now the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office wants to upgrade the charges.

A GoFundMe fundraising account initially created for the Bosworth medical expenses and her children has now yielded over $92,000 of a $200,000 goal.

The family through a cousin, issued a statement on the fundraising site.

"Our family thanks you for your kindness and heartfelt words, for your shoulders to cry on and your ears lent to listen. We are immeasurably grateful for your love and support. You’ve shown us that Andrea has truly touched many, many lives, and will continue to do so in her passing as we all keep her memory alive. In light of Andrea’s passing, we will now plan on using the GoFundMe for college funds for Andrea’s three young children."
