BOSTON (AP) - Three Democratic lawmakers say they will seek the position of Massachusetts Senate president should it become vacant in the future.
Sens. Eileen Donoghue, of Lowell, Linda Dorcena Forry, of Boston, and Karen Spilka, of Ashland, made their intentions known to colleagues in separate statements on Wednesday.
The jockeying began after Amherst Democrat Stan Rosenberg stepped aside as Senate President, at least temporarily, after several men told The Boston Globe they had been sexually abused by Rosenberg's husband, Bryon Hefner.
The Senate Ethics Committee voted Tuesday to open an investigation into whether Rosenberg or his staff violated any Senate rules in connection with the allegations against Hefner.
Sen. Harriette Chandler, a Worcester Democrat, is serving as acting president but says she wouldn't want the job permanently.
Other candidates could yet come forward.
