BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- A series of manhole explosions rocked a quiet neighborhood in Brighton early Sunday morning. It happened on Lake Street around 3:00 a.m.
One resident tells WBZ NewsRadio1030 that the manhole explosions were so loud, that houses in the area shook and that the final blast was earsplitting.
He ran outside to see what was going on.
"I heard three loud booms, the last one shook the house, then looked out the window and saw black smoke pluming from one of the manholes,” the man said.
MBTA and Boston Fire crews were on at the scene all morning and say that the smoke was caused by smoldering cables inside the manholes.
The cause of the explosions is under investigation.
T service in the area was not affected.
