Newton Family Asking For Help Finding Stolen Puppy

NEWTON (WBZ-AM) -- Where's Maxi?

That's what a Newton family is asking after they say thieves broke into their home and stole the Havanese puppy.

There were a broken window screen and footprints in the back yard, but the only thing the thieves stole was the dog.

Andres Zuniga told WBZ-TV his family was out at the time, and that they knew something was wrong when they got back.

"He was not barking, we couldn't hear anything," he said. "I immediately knew that Maxi was not in that house."

Zuniga said the two children in the house are heartbroken.

"It's been hard for my two kids," said Vanessa Kelly. "My daughter woke up last night, 'Maxi, where's Maxi?' ... These two days have been horrifying, a nightmare. I don't understand why, I don't know if it's a joke."

Now, the family is asking anyone with information to contact Newton Police.

"Please understand, this is not just a dog, it's a family member," Zuniga said.
