NASHUA, N.H. (AP) - Police say a car theft suspect attacked an officer with handcuffs while being taken into custody.

WMUR-TV reports 19-year-old Justin Hart, of Manchester, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to multiple offenses, including first-degree assault, resisting arrest and receiving stolen property.

He was released on bail. Nashua police say officers responded to a report of a stolen car at a Londonderry motel on Monday.

Police say they arrested Hart after he tried to get into the vehicle.Authorities say Hart slipped out of his handcuffs and ran when he was brought back to the Nashua Police Department.

Police say Hart beat an officer in the head with one of the handcuffs before he was restrained.

Nashua Police Lt. Craig Allard says the officer was treated for injuries to his eye and head.
