1 Dead In Westwood Fire

WESTWOOD (WBZ-AM) -- A man is dead after a blaze ripped through a home Wednesday night.

They were called to the house on Tamarack Road in the early evening.

Fire Chief John Deckers told WBZ-TV there was heavy fire showing when crews arrived.

Decker said they quickly pulled a man out of the house before it started to collapse.

"We did have two collapses in the building," he said. "That's why at times we did pull the firefighters out until we could deem that the building was safe to occupy again."

The badly injured victim, who has not yet been identified, was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead.

He was the third Massachusetts fire fatality of the year--and we're only eleven days in.

The cause of the fire was not yet known.

The State Fire Marshall's office is investigating.
