BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Three businesses are gone after a fast multi-alarm fire on Washington Street in Dorchester's Codman Square.
Boston Fire Commissioner Joe Finn says the first alarm sounded around 9 a.m. at 573 Washington Street.
Firefighting crews spent most of the day fighting the flames using foam and at one point they feared the roof holding up a billboard would collapse.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was not clear. However, officials say the fire did start in the basement of Codman Square Market convenience store.
It also damaged Mod Liquors, X.O Restaurant and a Citizen's Bank.
