BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey is promising a thorough review of the process that led to the selection of the Northern Pass project to deliver Canadian hydropower to Massachusetts.
In a statement, a spokeswoman for Healey said the role of the attorney general's office will be to make sure the Eversource bid was chosen on the basis of a "transparent, competitive and fair evaluation of all the proposals submitted."
State energy officials gave preliminary approval on Thursday to Northern Pass, a proposal to construct 192 miles of transmission line in New Hampshire for delivering hydropower from Quebec.
Under Massachusetts law, Eversource was involved in both setting the criteria for the project and the selection of the winning bidder. State officials say an independent evaluator was used to ensure an unbiased review.
