State's Highest Court To Hear Argument Over Fair Share Amendment

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) – The Commonwealth's highest court hears arguments Tuesday in a dispute over what's called the "fair share amendment."

The amendment to the state's constitution would tack on a four percent surtax onto household incomes over $1-million dollars.  The money collected, roughly $2 Billion dollars a year, would be used for state transportation and education programs.

Several business lobbies, including the Massachusetts taxpayers foundation filed suit last year to stop the proposal from appearing on this November’s ballot.
