BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Two teenagers have been hit by a car at Tremont Street and Columbus Ave in Roxbury Wednesday morning.
The accident happened in front for the Reggie Lewis Center at Roxbury Community College.
Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe that four teens were crossing the street when two of them were by an out-of-control white sedan that was traveling on Columbus Avenue.
One of the teens is in critical condition, and both are being treated at Boston Children's Hospital.
The car knocked over a traffic light and slammed into a light pole before resting on two wheels in a median.
"Whether he had a medical issue or just lost control of the vehicle, he went across the intersection up on the island and hit two young kids," Evans said.
A woman and her husband who witnessed the crash said they got out of their car and rushed over to the victims, placing their hands on the teenagers and praying for them.
"We know what prayer does, so we went to lay hands on them," the woman said.
The entire intersection remained closed as Police investigated, and the car was towed from the scene later in the afternoon.
Evans said investigators are not sure why the driver lost control of the car, but said the driver was visibly shaken.
A worker at Madison Park High School said the two teens who were hit are students at the school.
