CAMBRIDGE, MA (TTWN) -- Solange Knowles will headline this year's Cultural Rhythms Festival as Artist of the Year, the Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations announced Friday.

The foundation focuses on intercultural race relations, and the winner is chosen each year from a selection of artists that is voted on by students and faculty members.

Her 2016 album, “A Seat at the Table,” spoke to issues such as racial politics and empowerment. She is also known for her social justice activism.

Knowles will come to Cambridge to receive her award on March 3. The honor comes after a big 2017 for the artist and activist, which included her first Grammy, Black Entertainment Television and Billboard Impact Awards.

Previous recipients of the award include Viola Davis, Denzel Washington, John Legend and Shakira.
