BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) –  Change is coming around Fenway park. A petition has been filed to rename Yawkey Way.

The Red Sox have filed a petition with the City's Public Improvement commission to get rid of the name Yawkey Way and restore its original Jersey Street name.

The team's principal owner John Henry has previously said that he was "haunted" by the racism from the team's previous owner, Tom Yawkey.

Boston City councilor Josh Zakim says he and many of his constituents in the Fenway area support the move.

In a statement to WBZ NewsRadio1030, The Yawkey Way Foundations have expressed deep disappointment  towards the name change calling the petition and action based on a false narrative about Tom Yawkey,

A public hearing is scheduled next month.

WBZ NewsRadio1030's Bernice Corpuz reports.
