BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Rick Porcello went from being the American League Cy Young winner with a major league-leading 22 wins in 2016 to the game's biggest loser in 2017 with a high of 17.
The righty even led the bigs in hits and homers allowed.
With the new season a few short weeks away, Porcello's working quite a bit in spring camp with former Red Sox pitcher Derek Lowe.
He told NESN they've been focused on mechanics and grips, and working on his sinker and change-up.
"He's been very helpful," Porcello said. "I'm grateful that he takes the time out of his day to help me throw and stuff."
Porcello threw 47 pitches in a controlled minor league game yesterday in Fort Myers and new Boston slugger J.D. Martinez took him deep.
"It was a bad pitch," he said. "I'm walking in the dugout and J.D.'s like, 'You left it up!' I'm like, I know, J.D., I know what happened!"
Porcello and Martinez also played together in Detroit in 2014.
