BOSTON, MA (WBZ) – The Boston Public Improvement Commission will hold a hearing Thursday to consider whether to change the name of Yawkey Way to jersey street. a proposal from the Red Sox who are not enamored with the memory of former team owner Tom Yawkey on the issue of race

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh weighed in on the question Wednesday night on WBZ’s Nightside with Dan Rea.

Walsh told Dan that changing the name of Yawkey way to Jersey Street, the street’s original name, is not the complete answer because you still have to deal with issues of race in the city:

He says a better response would be if the red sox and the Yawkey foundation provided "social justice grants" to different organization in the city dealing with the issue of race.
