BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Devin McCourty's been in the NFL eight seasons--all in New England. His twin brother Jason's a nine-year vet but, for the first time since 2008 at Rutgers, the two will get to play together with the Patriots next season after the Pats acquired Jason from the Browns.

Devin told NBC Sports Boston he's been thinking about this moment a long time.

"It's pretty cool now to see it happening toward the end of both of our careers," he said. "Both have learned a lot through our years in the NFL. To be joined up now, we would have liked it earlier, but it's like a perfect fit."

Devin said Jason's excited.

"All he wants to do is play in the playoffs," he said. "If anything goes wrong and we don't make the playoffs, I'll be the first one to go to Bill and tell him to get him out of here, because he ruined something good that was going! His whole family, his kids, they're excited."

The only person more pumped than the twins? Their mom!

"She was just screaming when I FaceTimed her, she was so excited," he said. "She wanted this more than anybody else. I think when we first got in the league, we wanted to play together but we didn't care as much about playing together as getting second contracts, establishing ourselves, and I think our mom the whole time was like, 'I don't care about all that, just let them play together! She can't wait just to come up for the games, and be able to see all the grandkids and watch us play."
