State Senator Eileen Donahue Tapped To Lead Lowell As City Manager

LOWELL, MA (WBZ-AM) –  There’s a lot to like about Lowell including its new City manager.

On Tuesday, the Lowell City Council voted unanimously to make state senator Eileen Donahue their next City manager.

She’ll leave her job representing First Middlesex District in the State Senate in a few weeks and will replace current out going City Manager Kevin Murphy who retires April 1. ‘

City Council have appointed City Clerk Michael Geary to serve in the interim.

“I think the possibilities are endless for the City of Lowell. It’s the fourth largest city in the Commonwealth but there are so many great things happening here from education economic development the cultural scene. There just a lot to do and I couldn’t be happier to be starting this new job,” Donahue said.Donahue knows Lowell, having served as a city councilor—and chosen by fellow councilors to be mayor between 1998 and 2002.
