Norfolk District Attorney office confirmed that the remains of Joseph Brancato Jr of Winthrop were found by a driver who broke down on the southbound side of the highway Wednesday.

An autopsy performed by the Office of The Chief Medical Examiner Thursday did not immediately establish cause or manner of death.

Family and friends have been gathering at the home of Brancato's mother Kimberly who tells WBZ-TV that her heart is broken.

" I don't know how I am going to live without my son," she said. "My question is why would somebody would do this to someone?" she cried out.

Brancato, who originally from the North Shore, was staying with a marine recruiter when he vanished.

That man, Frank Lipka, was arrested last week on unrelated charges. He is said to be a man of interest in this case.

WBZ NewsRadio1030's Lana Jones reports.
