BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- If you've thought about driving a bus for the MBTA-- now might be your chance.
The agency says it wants to hire 55 more bus drivers -- as current rates of driver absences are causing bus reliability to suffer.
The MBTA says, since last year, it's had to cancel several hundred more buses than normal and that's putting a wrench in its efforts to try and improve service.
The president of the carmen's union says the "T" is responsible for the absences.
The union's president says for years, managers encouraged drivers to take unpaid medical leave rather than use paid sick days.
