Man Arrested For Impersonating Police Officer

LYNN, MA (WBZ-AM) -- A man charged with impersonating a police officer to rob a woman in Lynn over the weekend may be a suspect in several similar robberies

Lynn Police say Christian Alvarez pulled the victim over, flashed a badge and demanded license and registration. 

He then took off with her wallet. Lt. Michael Kmiec says the woman provided them with a description of the car and a partial plate.

"When the officers responded the victim of the robbery told them that she was stopped by someone who claimed they were a police officer, had displayed a badge and ah when she handed over her licence and registration as she was instructed to do, he grabbed her wallet from her and took off running," Kmiec said. 

Kmiec says when police found Alvarez in a car, he sped off backing into a cruiser then crashing into a tree. 

After a foot chase, he was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment of his injureis. 

Police say Alvarez and his car match descriptions given by other victims.. a badge, a BB gun and a flashing flash light have been recovered

Three or four other women have described similar robberies. 

Alvarez was arraigned and is being held without bail. 

He is due back in court after a mental health evaluation.
