Lowell Police Searching For Suspect's Car After Man Shot In Chest

LOWELL (WBZ-AM) -- Lowell Police say they are looking for a suspect's getaway car after a man was shot in the chest Wednesday night.

The shooting happened on Merrimack Street, where the victim was walking with his girlfriend, when they were approached by another man who confronted and shot him.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, went into a nearby sub shop for help. He was flown to a Boston hospital and is expected to survive.

Meanwhile, Lowell Police Captain John Webb said, the suspect fled in a 2005 gray Honda Accord with Massachusetts plates reading 9NE121.

"Anyone sees the vehicle, they're asked to call their local police department and relay the information," Capt. Webb said.

Webb said there appeared to be some prior interaction between the two parties earlier in the night, and that they met up later on Merrimack Street.

"We don't think there is any risk to the public because of this shooting," Capt. Webb said. "We think that there was some connection between the parties--we haven't established yet what that connection is, but it doesn't appear to be random."
