YARMOUTH, MA (WBZ-AM) -- A thick blue line stretched the block in front of St Pius Yhe X Parish in Yarmouth Tuesday as thousands of police officers from across the region gathered in tribute to murdered Officer Sean Gannon.

Police officers first formed a line four deep to make way for the Yarmouth and Barnstable departments who marched up to the church ahead of the hearse bearing Gannon's casket.

Most of the officers stood at attention outside for the entire service.

The funeral for the fallen officer was both large and simple moving mass.

Two bishops and the parish priest, Paul Caron were the only speakers. -- The family wanted privacy.

Caron spoke for the family about the memories shared since Gannon was shot serving a warrant last week.

Gannon was remembered for his humor and his humanity and was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sargent prior to the service.

Fall River bishop Edgar Dacunha read from the Book of John..

"No greater love has a man who would lay down his life for his friends."
