BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Lobster lovers beware, the New England culinary favorite will cost you more as prices are on the rise.
The reason is simple: Supply verses demand. The supply is down because the brutal storms the region experienced in March kept the fisherman on land.
Meanwhile, demand is up.
Massachusetts Lobstermen's Association Executive Director Beth Casoni says Asia is cutting into the market.
"The Chinese market has really exploded in the north east because we have direct flights from Logan into china and it's a live product. So a direct flight is a lot better for the product and the quality of product that is delivered ,"she said.
Casoni says wholesale prices are up about $1.50/pound over the last year.
