2 Killed In Jamaica Plain Shooting; Police Ask Public For Help

JAMAICA PLAIN (WBZ-AM) -- Police are asking the public for help finding the person who fatally shot two men at a Jamaica Plain apartment complex Friday night.

58-year-old Clayborn Blair, a father of three, and 23-year-old Christopher Joyce, who was set to graduate from Salem State University in a few weeks, were shot.

Both were rushed to the hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens they appeared to be innocent bystanders.

"We lost what appeared to be two innocent people to senseless gunfire on Friday night," he said.

Boston Police responded to the shooting on Centre Street shortly after 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Joyce's mother told WBZ-TV the family is heartbroken.

"He was intelligent, he was lovable," she said. "Just everything about Chris was just the spark of life."

Commissioner Evans and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh visited the family yesterday.

"It's sad," Evans said. "Such a young kid with his life ahead of him, doing well at school, ready to graduate."

Evans said investigators were looking at the possibility the shooting was sparked by a gang feud. He asked the public to call the BPD's tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS if they have any information about the shooting.
