Off-Duty MA State Trooper Arrested For OUI

LYNNFIELD, MA (WBZ-AM) — An off-duty Massachusetts State Police trooper was arrested late Saturday night on charges of driving under the influence of liquor and driving erratically.

State Police spokesman David Procopio said in a press release that Alfred G. Burgos, 35, was stopped by Troopers from the State Police Barracks in Danvers at approximately 11:40 p.m. in the Goodwin Circle Rotary in Lynnfield.

Burgos, who was off-duty at the time, was observed by motorists allegedly driving erratically on Routes 28 and I-95. 

Once Burgos was located and stopped Troopers observed that he had several alleged indicators of impairment and took him into custody

He is charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and committing a marked lanes violation. 

He was booked at Danvers State Police Barracks and was later bailed. He face arraignment later this week.

In addition to his arrest, State Police relieved Burgos of duty, an action that places him on administrative leave pending a formal departmental duty status hearing, which will be held this coming week.

He is assigned to the Division of Investigative Services.
