Correctional Officer Arrested For Smuggling Drugs In Prison

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) --  A Massachusetts correction officer is under arrest for a scheme to smuggle in opioids inside prison.

William Holts, 51, of Pawtucket, R.I., was arrested and charged in a criminal complaint with one count of conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute. 

Holts, worked at Massachusetts Correctional Institute facility in Norfolk.

According to Federal officials, Holts told an inmate that he would bring in over 100 Suboxone strips in exchange for $2,000 in cash. 

They also say in a series of recorded calls, he also arranged to meet with someone outside the prison to get the cash and get the drugs inside MCI-Norfolk.

While Suboxone is substance intended to treat heroin addiction, some abuse the drug to get high.

Holts is being held pending a detention hearing on Friday.
