Quincy Daycare Closed After Child Contracts Typhoid Fever

QUINCY, MA (WBZ-AM) -- A Bright Horizons' daycare is closed Thursday and Friday-- after officials say a child who goes there -- contracted A Bright Horizons' daycare is closed Thursday and Friday-- after officials say a child who goes there -- contracted typhoid fever.fever.

Chris Walker, Director of policy for Quincy Mayor Tom Koch tells WBZ NewsRadio1030 that the State Department of Public Health is investigating.

The Center For Disease Control says typhoid is spread by contaminated food and water.

Symptoms include fever - stomach pains - headache - and a rash.

About 300 people get typhoid across the United States each year -- but most of those cases stem from recent travel. 

Worldwide -- the CDC says each year -- there are more than 22 million cases of typhoid – 200,000 of those which turn deadly.
