Lynn Mayor Hopes To Re-Start Ferry Through Fed Grant

LYNN, MA (WBZ-AM) –the Lynn ferry may grounded this year, but the service is not gone for good  Lynn’s mayor believes the service is worth investing in, despite what the Governor said.

Lynn Mayor Tom Mcgee says a year-round ferry service to Boston is in the works and it could be operating within the next year, thanks to a $4.5-Million dollar federal grant.

Although last year’s ridership was low, Mcgee says the first years of the pilot program were more successful because the service offered more rounds; almost 14,000 people took the ferry in 2014.

The number went up by a thousand a year later. But then the service stopped in 2016.

Even though the Governor said no to the service this year, Mcgee says providing this transportation option to the north shore makes sense in the long term.
