BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- A man MBTA Transit Police say robbed a woman on a Red Line platform last December was caught last week--and they say his distinct facial tattoos helped them nab him.

The woman told Transit Police she was robbed on December 21, 2017 on the Downtown Crossing platform.

She said a man, who police later identified as 36-year-old Nikia Eddings of Boston, faked bumping into her in order to go into her purse and steal her wallet. She said she realized what he did right away, but he was able to get away quickly.

Police identified Eddings as the suspect because of the victim's description of the tattoos on his face and neck--and nearly six months later, on May 3, a Transit Police crime analyst spotted him at the South Bay Mall bus stop in Dorchester.

He was taken into custody and charged with larceny.
