BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The former First Lady of Massachusetts is talking about how "shock treatment" cured her severe depression.

The public knew of Kitty Dukakis's long battle with alcoholism, but she told 60 Minutes Sunday night that it was the result of depression and that it was cured by "shock treatment"--electroconvulsive therapy, or ECT, at MacLean Hospital.

"I just was like a new person," she told Anderson Cooper.

Dukakis, 80, has become an outspoken advocate of ECT.
