New Trains For Orange Lines Being Tested In Medford

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) -- Some welcome news for the Orange line riders. Brand new subway cars are on track to make their debut later this year.

Governor Baker says that he cannot wait until the new Orange line trains hit the track and begin delivering passengers starting in December.

On Tuesday Baker got a tour of some of the new car train cars that are being track tested at Wellington Station in Medford, and was very impressed.

Transportation Secretary Stephanie Pollack says right now trains on the orange line arrive at stations every 6 minutes during rush hour. That Number will decrease as new trains are added.

The new cars include more emergency intercoms for passengers, wider door openings, LED lightning and closed circuit surveillance cameras.
