MIDDLEBORO (WBZ-AM) -- Middleboro Police and The Plymouth District Attorney's office say that a man took his own life after an armed stand-off with police Wednesday.
They say that John Mann, 26 of Middleboro shot at police and barricaded himself for nearly 8-hours when officers from the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office attempted to serve a warrant at his home in Wareham Street around 9:30 a.m.
When the Mann saw the officers approach, the release said, the suspect shot at them with a long gun, but did not hit anyone.
Police then issued a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents as they dealt with a barricaded Mann.,
Chief Joseph Perkins said Mann was a wanted fugitive.
A regional SWAT team was called in to deal with the situation.
Several attempts were made to contact with Mann but were unsuccessful Police said.
Eventually the SWAT team breached the house where the foundMann’s body on the first floor of the home. He was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say that a rifle and two handguns were recovered from inside the home and seized as evidence.
