Seaport Policing Hearing Begins At City Hall

The turf war over Seaport jurisdiction between State and Boston Police came to a head Friday (May 18) as Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans testified at City Hall. No representatives from the State Police department were present.

In his testimony, Police Commissioner Evans said Boston Police should have joint jurisdiction with State and Massport Police in the Seaport because it's absurd to exclude Boston officers from responding to crimes on Boston streets. "It makes a lot of sense to have local cops patrolling local streets," Evans added.

Boston City Councilor At-Large Michelle Wu said that the current situation "deprives people in the area of a well-trained police force," adding, "this is the fastest-growing part of the city right now."
