SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Two men have been arrested for hitting police officers with a car while fleeing the scene of a sobriety test in western Massachusetts.

MassLive.com reports police tried to stop 37-year-old Abismael Martinez of Chicopee, and 35-year-old Jason Matos of Springfield for reckless driving.

Martinez allegedly failed to wait for the field sobriety test and sped off, hitting two officers and dragging one several feet.

Massachusetts State Police intervened and arrested the men.

Police say Martinez resisted arrest and had nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Martinez, whose attorney could not be identified, faces several changes. Matos is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (vehicle). The officers who were struck are expected to recover. An attorney for Matos could not be identified.
