BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- More Massachusetts State Police troopers are under investigation as part of an ongoing overtime scandal that has already led to several troopers being suspended without pay.
A Mass State Police spokesperson confirmed to WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karyn Regal that seven more troopers are being investigated as the agency continues an audit of Troop E. That troop used to patrol the Mass Pike and tunnels--but it has been eliminated as part of the scandal, in which troopers were allegedly paid for shifts they did not work.
Those seven troopers will remain on active duty. Five other troopers who were supposed to face disciplinary hearings have retired.
A federal grand jury and the Massachusetts Attorney General's office are also investigating. In total, 40 Massachusetts State Police troopers are being investigated.
